Serves 4
12 oz (350g) plain flour
3 oz (75g) margarine
3 oz (75g) lard
1 lb (450g) rump steak or topside beef
3 oz (75g) shredded suet
2 medium onions
Salt and pepper

Preheat oven to 200 C/400F/Gas Mark 6. Rub margarine and lard into the flour. Add a little salt and enough cold water to make a firm dough. Divide into 4 equal pieces and roll out into ovals.
Beat out the steak to make it thinner and cut into small squares. Mix the meat and suet and add the finely chopped onion. Season well and divide into 4 portions. Cover half of each oval with meat and seal well. Crimp the edges with fingers and thumb. Make a small hole in the top of each one. Place on a greased baking-sheet and bake for 45 minutes.
