Malcolm II (1005-1034)

Malcolm II was the son of Kenneth II. He came to the throne after his father's death. He killed his cousin Kenneth III. He was the last king of the House of Alpin, he married but had no sons so he made sure that his daughters would marry well. His daughter Bethoc married the Abbot of Dunkeld and their son was Duncan I.

Another daughter married Earl Sigurd of Orkney and her son Thorfinn made it possible for the King of Alba to have the control over the lands of Caithness and Sutherland.

Malcolm formed an alliance with King Owen and they both defeated King Canute at the Battle of Carham in 1018. King Owen died childless so Malcolm claimed Strathclyde for his grandson Duncan. Malcolm was killed at Glamis in 1034.
