Duncan I – King of Scotland (1034 –1040)

In 1034 Duncan became King of Scotland after the death of  Malcolm II.  Duncan I was a terrible leader and made a disastrous campaign into Northumbria therefore, he was forced to retreat into Scotland. His cousin was MacBeth, chief of the northern Scots who also had a right to the throne through his mother.

MacBeth formed an alliance with his cousin the Earl of Orkney and together, they defeated and killed Duncan I near Forres in 1040.
